Eugen Boehringer
Eugen Böhringer (born January 22, 1922 in Rotenberg near Stuttgart , † June 19, 2013 in Stuttgart) was a German racing driver and rally driver .
life and career
Eugen Böhringer got his sports car driving career through a bet. In 1954 he bet that he would win the skill tournament of the Untertürkheim automobile club in his class. In fact, he won.
In 1959, Eugen Böhringer won eight races with his Alfa Romeo . In 1960 and 1962, he was only a few seconds away from overall victory in the Monte Carlo Rally . He won the Poland rally in 1961 and 1962, the Liège – Sofia – Liège motor marathon in 1962 and the Acropolis rally in 1962 and 1963. He was also the overall winner of the Germany Rally in 1963; In 1963 and 1964 he was the overall winner of the “Argentine Grand Prix”.
On September 7, 1963, he was honored with the silver laurel leaf for his sporting achievements.
At the beginning of 1964 he held the lap records for touring cars on the Solitude with 5:24 minutes and on the Nürburgring with 10:31 minutes.
Eugen Böhringer carefully prepared for his rally outings:
“Three weeks before the start of such a long journey, I begin to reduce my fluid intake a little. In addition to my traditional Swabian food, I then consume carrot extract to strengthen my eyes, as well as nutrients for the nerves. Anyone who sits at the wheel of a car for four days and four nights in a special rally and chases it at the (permitted) top speed over highways, country roads, scree paths and almost impassable passes, needs the eye of an eagle and nerves like broad pasta. Nevertheless, the best driver would be lost if he had chosen the wrong co-driver. "
Böhringer ended his racing career in 1965.
