Rotenberg is a district of Stuttgart and belongs to the Stuttgart district of Untertürkheim . It borders the Obertürkheim ( Uhlbach ) district and the neighboring community of Fellbach .

history
The village of Rotenberg (formerly also "Rothenberg") is mentioned in a document for the first time in 1248 and was a core part of Altwürttembergs . For centuries, the well-fortified Wirtemberg Castle , the ancestral seat of the Württembergers , shaped the image between the free imperial city of Esslingen am Neckar and the royal seat of Stuttgart , before it was completely demolished in 1819 by decision of the then King Wilhelm I. In its place he had a magnificent mausoleum, the burial chapel on the Württemberg , built for his second wife, the Tsar's daughter Katharina Pavlovna , who died early .
In 1907 the mountain Rotenberg with the burial chapel was officially renamed Württemberg by King Wilhelm II .
Rotenberg belonged to the Württemberg Oberamt Cannstatt and from 1923 to 1931 to the Oberamt Esslingen . In 1931 Rotenberg lost its independence and was incorporated into Stuttgart as the twelfth community . When the city of Stuttgart was divided into districts in 1956, Rotenberg was assigned to the Untertürkheim district.
Residential area
The residential area is one of the most expensive addresses in Stuttgart. Characteristic of the residential area is the exposed panoramic position and limited development possibilities. Numerous celebrities, including a soccer player from VfB Stuttgart , live in Stuttgart-Rotenberg.

Others
- The nickname Käskipper for the Rotenbergers is often explained from the envy of the neighboring communities for the privileges due to the proximity to the ancestral castle of the Württemberger - the neighbors called the Wirtemberg, the pride of the Rotenbergers, as Käsbuckel . The name originally goes back to the Rotenbergers' preference for "Luckeleskäs" ("Luckele": small chickens that were fed with the cheese), a simple quark and milk cheese. The cheese, also known as "Heähleskäs", was tipped from a saucepan onto a wooden board, dressed with caraway seeds and salt and eaten with bread and wine.
- Stuttgart-Rotenberg belongs to the Upper Neckar suburbs and has therefore had a youth council since February 2008 .
