The Collegium Wirtemberg eG Rotenberg & Uhlbach is a winemaking cooperative in Stuttgart and the largest wine producer in the state capital .

history

The company emerged from the merger of the Stuttgart winegrowing cooperatives Uhlbach and Rotenberg in 2007. The wine of the cooperative around the Württemberg , namesake of the company, is grown. On this mountain stands the Rotenberg burial chapel , which King Wilhelm I (1781–1864) built between 1820 and 1824 for his wife Katharina Pavlovna (1788–1819). The chapel is the symbol of the cooperative.

Cultivation

The vines of the Collegium Wirtemberg grow on a total area of 150 hectares. The proportion of red wine is 63 percent with a focus on the Trollinger (40 ha) and Lemberger (17 ha) and Pinot Noir (14 ha) varieties. 37 percent is white wine, with a focus on Riesling (25 ha). The annual yield averages 88 to 90 hectoliters per hectare, i.e. a total of around 1.3 million liters. The difference in altitude goes from 290 to 440 meters above sea level. In the vineyard floor there is travertine with traces of small marine animals that are still visible today, and the parlor sandstone , which gives the wines their unique aroma. The company has 210 members (2017), the number of grape suppliers is 35. Half of the wine is sold directly in the sales outlets in Rotenberg and Uhlbach. Gastronomy is also declining to a large extent - according to the company, nationwide. In the two districts of Uhlbach and Rotenberg there is a wine press and sales outlets, the Untertürkheim Fleckensteinbruch is the location of the technical department and a wooden barrel cellar.
