Uhlbach is a district of Stuttgart , administered by the Obertürkheim district and surrounded by the neighboring towns of Obertürkheim, Rotenberg and Esslingen am Neckar .
history
The wine village of Uhlbach, located in a valley basin, was first mentioned in a document in 1247. The Uhlbacher Kelter is mentioned as early as 1366, the Andreas Church was built in 1490 and the imposing half-timbered town hall was built in 1612.
Uhlbach and Obertürkheim were border towns in the Middle Ages. Here the area of the Württemberg met the area of the Free Imperial City of Esslingen am Neckar .
In 1923 Uhlbach and Rotenberg came to the Oberamt Esslingen for a few years until it was incorporated into Stuttgart on April 1, 1937.
When the city of Stuttgart was divided into districts in 1956, the Obertürkheim district was combined with the Uhlbach district to form the Obertürkheim district.
In addition to tourism, fruit and wine growing is Uhlbach's most important line of business, and many families in Uhlbach still run their vineyards and one family has a broom farm . The Uhlbach wine growers' cooperative, founded in 1907, merged with the Rotenberg wine growers to form the Collegium Wirtemberg - Weingärtner Rotenberg & Uhlbach eG.
