Vinum (spelling: VINUM) is a magazine for wine. The place of publication is Zurich. VINUM has been published since 1980 and reaches readers in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France and Spain with three country-specific editions a month.

history

The special interest magazine was founded in November 1980 by a number of Zurich wine enthusiasts who also took over the ownership of Intervinum AG in Zurich. The driving force was the author Rolf Kriesi as editor (until his death) and Roland Bärtsch as co-founder and layouter from the very beginning. VINUM initially appeared with the subtitle "The international magazine for friends of wine". The wine author Rudolf Knoll is a longstanding employee .

European wine magazine

A special edition for Germany was published as early as 1983 (by Falter-Verlag, Aachen), in which, in 1987, a competition was announced for the first time with the German Red Wine Prize , which has taken place every two years since then. A country edition for France followed in 1991, and the Spanish edition was published for the first time in 1997. In 2004 VINUM was also published in Italian, but it was discontinued after a year.

In 2002, Landwirtschaftsverlag Münster took over the majority in Intervinum AG , as well as in Vinum GmbH . At that time the magazine was one of the highest-circulation wine magazines in Europe with 90,000 printed copies (including 40,000 in German). In 2005 Intervinum AG acquired all rights to Heinz-Gert Woschek's magazine Alles über Wein , the name was adopted as a subtitle for VINUM until 2010. In 2009, the publishing house KünzlerBachmann Medien AG, St. Gallen bought the majority of shares in Intervinum AG from the trademark and title rights holder of Vinum.

content

VINUM, Europe's leading magazine for wine culture, reports on trends in the wine scene and presents over 300 exceptional wines and their makers every month. Excitingly written reports about wine regions not only scratch the surface, they go into depth. Information meets enjoyment, entertainment meets utility.

The editorial team tastes, describes and evaluates the best wines from the most important wine-growing areas in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal and the New World - but also from new or still unknown wine regions. In the detailed wine guides with tasting notes and ratings, VINUM presents the best wines and the associated sources of supply. The assessment is based on a 20-point system.

With the Grand Prix du Vin Suisse, the German Red Wine Award, the Swiss Organic Wine Award, the Riesling Champion and the International Cooperative Cup, VINUM has established itself as the organizer of important wine awards in Germany and Switzerland.

In addition to the main magazine, VINUM publishes various special publications on special wine topics. Some of the titles in this series are: Big Bordeaux, Top of Tuscany, Champagne Extra, Languedoc, Wine & Delicacies.
