Walter shock

Walter Schock (born April 3, 1920 in Stuttgart-Wangen ; † December 21, 2005 in Stuttgart ) was a German motor sportsman and successful racing and rally driver in the 1950s and 1960s.

Career

In 1955 he and Rolf Moll took third place in the overall ranking at the Monte Carlo Rally and was subsequently runner-up in the European Rally Championship. In 1956 he became the international German and European rally champion, German sports car champion in the GT class up to 1300 cubic centimeters and the winner of the Eifel race . In 1957, Federal President Theodor Heuss awarded him the Silver Laurel Leaf for his special achievements in motorsport . In 1960 Schock won the European Touring Car Championship and the Monte Carlo Rally with co-driver Rolf Moll in a Mercedes 220 SE. Places two and three also went to Mercedes, to Eugen Böhringer / Hermann Socher and Roland Ott / Eberhard Mahle. Victories at the Poland, Sestriere and Akropolis rallies rounded off the annual balance sheet. At the end of the season, Schock received the golden Mercedes star with ruby. The Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) presented him with the Great Gold Medal, the Automobile Club of Germany (AvD) honored him with the Golden Sports Badge with Oak Leaves.

In 1972 he took second place in the senior class of the Monte Carlo Rally .

In 1988 the city of Stuttgart named him a “sports pioneer”, and in 1992 the Federal Republic of Germany awarded him the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
