Rally Sestriere
The Rallye Sestriere (Italian Rallye del Sestriere ) was a rally sport event organized by the Turin Automobile Club every February in the 1950s. The 1800 km long circuit led from Sestriere via Bologna and Rome . An important sponsor at the time was Emilio Christillin, who was also chairman of the Turin Automobile Club and won the first race in his Lancia Aprilia .
A large number of works teams and drivers took part in the ten editions of the Rallye Sestriere.
At the 11th edition of the Rallye Sestriere, which was also a run of the European Rally Championship, the second round of the road race was banned by the Italian authorities a few hours before the start. The ban was justified with safety concerns.
As a result, the Rallye Sestriere was revived in various forms and routes, but without achieving its original sporting relevance. In 1970 and 1971 , the Sestriere Rally was merged with the San Remo Rally and, as Rally Italy, was part of the International Championship for Manufacturers , a forerunner series of the World Rally Championship .
The Sestriere Storico is now a new edition with historical vehicles.
