The Moto Guzzi Motoleggera 65 is a light motorcycle that the Italian company Moto Guzzi produced from 1946 to 1954. "Motoleggera" means "light motorcycle" in German.
history
The Motoleggera 65 was the first new design by Moto Guzzi after the Second World War . In contrast to the pre-war construction with 250 cm³ or even 500 cm³ displacement, the "Guzzino" offered mobility for little money. The light motorcycle initially cost ITL 159,000 (€ 82.12).
Until 1951, the Motoleggera 65 could be driven in Italy without an official license plate, then these were also introduced for light motorcycles. In 1954 the further developed Cardellino replaced the Guzzino.
technology
Engine and drive
The Guzzino. has an air-cooled single - cylinder two-stroke engine with a forward-facing cylinder. The flywheel, which also drives the magneto, is located on the left stump of the double-bearing crankshaft . The engine power is passed on to the three-speed gearbox via a multi-plate oil bath clutch, which can be operated with a lever on the right-hand side of the tank via a linkage. The transmission is connected to the rear wheel by a machine chain.
The mixture is prepared by a flat-flow carburetor with a round slide, 15 mm passage and a plate air filter. The chrome-plated exhaust pipe is pulled backwards under the engine to the burnished cylinder-shaped silencer, which is located transversely in front of the rear wheel. A diffuser leads from the silencer to the outside on the left-hand side of the vehicle. From 1948 this was replaced by a short, diagonally cut exhaust pipe.
Frame and chassis
The Motoleggera 65 has a central tube bridge frame without a tail boom. The rear swing arm is supported by a central barrel spring without damping on the frame. The front wheel sits in a parallelogram fork with a barrel spring.
tank
The tank for gasoline / oil mixture has a volume of 6.5 liters.
Wheels and brakes
The 26 ″ wheels are wire-spoke wheels and have half-hub drum brakes . The rear brake is operated via a foot lever on the left side of the engine and a linkage, the front with a cable from the handlebars. The foot brake lever can be operated with the tip of your foot.
Materials
The engine / gearbox housing, the cylinder and the cylinder head are made of aluminum. At times there was also a cast iron cylinder . The frame, the rear swing arm, the front fork, the tank and the mudguards, on the other hand, are made of sheet steel.
Painting, surface treatment and emblems
The sheet steel parts are mostly painted fire red (similar to RAL 3000) with black and gold-colored decorative stripes. In 1953 there were some specimens without trim and some specimens painted gray. On the tank sides of the machines there are gold-colored Moto Guzzi emblems as decals. The gray cast iron parts of the engine (if applicable) are black oxide finish.
