Tadeusz "Tadek" Marek (* 1908 in Cracow ; † 1982 ) was a Polish automotive engineer who was best known for his Aston Martin engines .

Career

Marek was born in Krakow and studied engineering at the Technical University of Berlin before starting to work for Fiat and General Motors in Poland. Despite a serious racing accident in 1928, he took part in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1937 in a Fiat 1100 , in 1938 in a Lancia Aprilia and in 1939 in an Opel Olympia . In a Chevrolet Master Sedan (4 door) he also won the XII in 1939. Rally Poland before moving to the UK in 1940 to join the Polish Army. In 1944 he joined the development team atCenturion - Meteor engines added. He then returned to Germany to work for the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration . When this mission ended, he decided to move back to England.

In 1949 he started working for the Austin Motor Company and then from 1954 for Aston Martin . He is best known for working on three types of engines at Aston Martin. In 1956, for example, he developed the six-cylinder in - line engine for the Aston Martin DBR2 racing car , revised the previous in-line six-cylinder from Lagonda in 1957 and finally developed the Aston Martin V8 engine in 1968. The latter was first used in 1969 in the Aston Martin DBS and remained in the Aston Martin engine range for almost five decades.

Marek moved to Italy with his wife in 1968 , where he died in 1982.
