Rideau Lakes Rally

The Rideau Lakes Rally was a rally near Smiths Falls , Ontario , Canada . The rally was originally a national event (Silver Lake Rally) and was hosted by a rally club in the 1960s. The Rideau Lakes Rally was first driven under this name in 1973 and was held as a World Rally Championship race in 1974 . The event was a success, but no sponsors could be found. So it stayed with this one World Rally Championship run in Canada for the time being. The World Rally Championship did not return until 1977. The rally consisted of 40 special stages on gravel roads. Of the 51 drivers who started, 19 saw the finish. Sandro Munari won with the Lancia Stratos HF, ahead of Simo Lampinen in a Lancia Beta Coupé. The Canadian Walter Boyce finished third in a Toyota Celica .
