Ingvar Carlsson (born April 2, 1947 in Nyköping ; † October 28, 2009 there ) was a Swedish rally and racing driver .

Career

Carlsson contested his first rally in 1968 and took part in a total of 42 rounds of the World Rally Championship (WRC) between 1974 and 1994 . In 1989 he was able to win both the Rally Sweden and the Rally New Zealand with a Mazda 323 4WD of Group A , which marked the most important successes of his motorsport career. At both rallies his co-driver was the Swede Per Carlsson, who was not related to him or by marriage. In addition, the Mazda team secured overall victory at the Rally Australia in 1988 , which this year did not yet have World Rally Championship status.

In 1995 and 1996 Ingvar Carlsson took part in the FIA - European Rallycross Championship. In his first full Championship season he formed together with the four-times Olympic champion Gunde Svan a team ( Christer Bohlin Motorsport ), both drivers piloted each a Toyota Celica 4WD the group N . While Svan finished third in the 1995 championship, Carlsson was fifth. The following year, the former cross-country skier had ended his rallycross activities and Carlsson finished fourth in the European Championship series before retiring from the rallycross scene after winning the final at the Estering in Buxtehude .

The German car tuner Carlsson Autotechnik , for whom he also worked as a consultant, named himself after Carlsson .
