The Estering is a permanent motorsport racetrack for rallycross competitions in Buxtehude , about 35 km southwest of Hamburg .

The Estering is located in the Estetal , about 1.5 km south of the city (from the B 73 take the L 141 towards Moisburg and Hollenstedt ), between the villages of Eilendorf and Pippensen / Heimbruch . Under the direction of the Automobilclub Niederelbe e. V. in the ADAC (ACN Buxtehude) up to four international rallycross events take place there every year. The first of these races was held on May 21, 1972, the day of the German rallycross premiere. The overall winner at the time was Jan de Rooy in a DAF 555 Coupé 4 × 4 with a Ford BDA engine.

Up to and including the European Championship run in September 2012, the ACN had already organized a total of 121 international rallycross races. However, since the organizer himself kept the registered but later canceled races 28 (April 1982), 32, 33, 34, 35 (all dates of the 1983 season) and 124 (September 2011) in its count, the information in question differs Race posters, programs, the Estering website, etc. from the facts. The last race of each season was usually the final of the FIA European Rallycross Championship for drivers, which has attracted thousands of spectators from Germany and abroad to Buxtehude for years.

After this EM round had to be canceled only in 1983 because the facility had been closed for one year, there was no competition for the European Championship on the Estering in 2007 because the race was registered too late and not properly with the FIA. For 2008, however, the world automobile sporting sovereignty had again awarded the European Championship final to Buxtehude, while in 2009 the German European Championship run was held here in mid-August. As part of the 2010 European Championship, which took place again in mid-August, the so-called Joker Laps were run for the first time on the Estering . To this end, an approximately 150-meter-long, somewhat slower alternative route was created in mid-2010 in the area of the start and finish, which each participant has to take once in each individual race. In 2011 there was again no EM run on the Estering, the evaluation of the EM run 2010 was not good enough.

On September 20 and 21, 2014, the FIA World Rallycross Championship was held for the first time on the Estering.

The name Bernd Ziskofen is inextricably linked with "his" Estering .
