history

The first written mention of Hollenstedt reported about the stay of Emperor Charlemagne in Hollenstedt in 804:

It once said:

"Nam imperator super Albiam fluvium sedebat, in loco, qui dicitur Holdunsteti, et missa ad Godofridum legatione pro perfugis reddendis me * dio Septembrio Coloniam venit."

“Because the emperor [ Charlemagne ] resided near the Elbe in a place called Holdunsteti, and after sending an embassy to [King] Godfried [ Gudfred ] [of Denmark] to hand over refugees, he left in mid-September to Cologne."

- Annales regni Francorum for the year 804

And elsewhere:

"Et habiit [imperator] ultra Alaram ad locum qui vocatur Oldonastath et venit ad eum ibi rex Abotritorum nomine Irosuc et detulit ei munera multa."

"And the emperor went over the Aller to a place called Oldonastath, there the king of the Abodrites called Irosuc [ Drasco ] came to him and brought him many presents."

- Chronicon Moissiacense for the year 804

Castle

To the south of Hollenstedt lies the so-called Karlsburg or Alte Burg in a bend in the river Este . The ring wall was built in the 9th century. After previous excavations by the Helms Museum , the castle wall was reconstructed in 1980 and now reflects the shape of the complex shortly after it was abandoned. The facility is looked after as a Helms Museum branch.

The scientific classification of the castle is controversial. According to Reichsannalen , Charlemagne was in Hollenstedt in 804 for negotiations with the ambassador of the Danish King Gudfred (Göttrik) . Whether the castle was built at this time or even as a camp of the emperor near Hollenstedt has not been conclusively clarified. Due to the way it was built and the fragments that were found, it is possible that the Slavs did not build it until the end of the 9th century during an advance into the area south of the Elbe .

Sports

  • Heated outdoor pool (a swimmer's pool with a length of 50 meters, a non-swimmer pool, a diving tower with two 1-meter and two 3-meter diving boards, heated heat path to the swimmer and non-swimmer pools)
  • Max-Schmeling-Hallen (2 sports halls)
  • Hiking trails through quiet forest areas and meadow valleys as well as developed bike trails are just as suitable for those seeking relaxation as canoeing to Buxtehude on the Este flowing through a charming landscape valley .

traffic

Hollenstedt station

Hollenstedt is on the A1 and on the Hamburg – Bremen long-distance cycle route . The railway connection to Harsefeld ( EVB , formerly part of the Bremervörde - Buchholz connection in the Nordheide ) was dismantled in 2006. Passenger traffic on this route (course book number 217c) was discontinued on May 25, 1968; the line towards Buchholz was already completely shut down and then dismantled.

Today three bus routes still operate in Hollenstedt, all of which are operated by KVG Stade and are connected to the Hamburg Transport Association:

  • 2038 Buxtehude - Moisburg - Hollenstedt
  • 4037 Buchholz - Trelde - Wenzendorf - Dierstorf - Hollenstedt
  • 4039 S-Bahn Neu Wulmstorf - Elstorf - Hollenstedt - Regesbostel
  • also several company and school-related regular services
  • since April 2015: shared call taxi

All bus lines only run on working days (Mon-Fri); the shared call taxi (AST) supplements the bus timetables, especially the school bus routes that do not operate during school holidays and also offers a timetable for Saturdays and Sundays and public holidays. The introduction of the AST is a pilot project that is provisionally limited to 2017.

Since 2011, Hollenstedt and places within the joint municipality of Hollenstedt have been served by the Regionalpark Shuttle Ring 2 service on Sundays, public holidays and Saturdays. This free bus service with the option of taking bicycles with you is primarily used for excursions and is only offered in the summer months (July to October). From 2011 onwards, for the first time in 43 years, some places within the integrated municipality of Hollenstedt were also accessible by public transport on Sundays and public holidays, but only for about three months.

In 2015, the regional park shuttle line will only serve the town of Klauenburg , which belongs to the municipality of Wenzendorf .

economy

Hollenstedt is the seat of the Ankerherz publishing house .

Personalities

  • Max Schmeling (1905-2005), German boxing legend, and his wife Anny Ondra , German-Czech actress, lived in a suburb of Hollenstedt (Dierstorf-Heide). Their common grave is in the Hollenstedter Friedhof. There is a monument at the sports halls.
