coat of arms
Blazon : “Shield divided into silver and red. Above a red eight star, below a silver arm that holds a silver, torn chain in its fist. " | |
Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms from 1935 refers to the name and traditions of Asendorf.
The upper part shows a red Hagal rune on a silver background, a reference to the name "Asen". This name probably refers to the Germanic religion , in which other gods ( Asen ) are worshiped in addition to the fertility gods ( Vanen ) : Wodan (Odin, funeral leader and master of magic), Thor (Donar, protector of the peasants against the giants) and Tiwaz (god of war). The name could, however, also be of Longobard origin, since the Longobards are said to have had a personal name “Aso” or “Anso”. The lower part with a silver arm and a torn chain on a red background refers to the figure of the "strong Hinnerk" who is said to have lived in Asendorf around the time of Napoleon and about whom several stories are told. |
