history
In the current political municipality of Egestorf, the Bronze Age burial mounds can still be visited today. In the following time the Lombards and the peoples of the Saxon Union from southern Scandinavia settled here. Egestorf was first mentioned in a document in 1252 (document no. 433 of the Verden document book as Edestorpe). The district of Döhle is documented with originally seven original settlements in 1135. The Egestorf Church became independent in 1419 and was replaced by the Salzhausen Church in 1447. In 1567 the existence of a school was mentioned for the first time and the half-timbered church St. Stephanus , which still exists today , was built in 1645. In 1888, the first savings and loan fund in the Lüneburg region was founded in Egestorf. The war club, now the rifle club , was founded in 1902. In 1906 the Winsen – Egestorf railway line was inaugurated and in 1910 the volunteer fire brigade and the men's gymnastics club (MTV) were founded. In 1921 the entire village was supplied with electricity, and the Catholic St. Mary's Church was built in 1964. Since 1972 Egestorf has formed a unified community with Döhle, Evendorf, Sahrendorf and Schätzendorf.
Incorporations
The municipality reform, which came into force on July 1, 1972, merged the previously independent municipalities of Döhle, Egestorf, Evendorf and Sahrendorf to form the municipality of Egestorf. As part of the joint municipality of Hanstedt, many administrative tasks were transferred to it. The municipality of Egestorf itself is the exclusive bearer of public tasks in its area today. This includes the drawing up of development plans, economic development - including tourism - and the construction and maintenance of the municipal streets and footpaths, including lighting and drainage.
The community is also responsible for the preservation of local history and monuments, including the community archive, as well as the production and maintenance of the community houses, festival halls, playgrounds and football fields.

natural reserve
Nature conservation has been an important topic in Egestorf for many years. The commitment of Heidepastor Wilhelm Bode (1860–1927), who lived and worked in Egestorf for many years, contributed to the fact that a large area was placed under nature protection for the first time in Germany, following the example of American national parks. Pastor Bode thus became the first German nature conservation pioneer. The Pastor-Bode-Weg is his legacy. It is around seven kilometers long and leads from Egestorf to Wilsede through the most beautiful heather areas. Even today, many guests visit the Lüneburg Heath nature reserve , which borders the Egestorf community in the east.
When the Reich Agency for Nature Conservation in Berlin was bombed out in early 1945, the new beginning of German nature conservation after the Second World War began from Egestorf with the then director Hans Klose (1880–1963). The Central Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management was located in Egestorf until 1952, when it was relocated to Bonn-Bad Godesberg as the Federal Agency for Nature Conservation and Landscape Management, from which today's Federal Agency for Nature Conservation emerged .

This consists of a resurrection scene of Christ and mourning virgins. Above it is a portrait medallion of the deceased. On the north side of the choir hangs a picture of the Last Supper after Leonardo da Vinci . In the choir are pictures of the prophets and the apostles . The pulpit dates from 1616.
