history

The necropolis of Soderstorf is a group of archaeological monuments , consisting of a number of prehistoric cemeteries that were excavated near Soderstorf and restored in a small area. The stone grave , burial mound and urn cemetery offer an overview of the burial customs from the younger Stone Age to the Bronze and Iron Age in the Lüneburg Heath .

The stone grave was in the 4th millennium BC. And was still used for burials in the Bronze Age (around 1500 BC) . The burial mound, around which in the 7th century BC, also comes from the Bronze Age. An urn cemetery was created. The grave sites were marked with upright steles , stone circles and paving stones . The whole spectrum of these grave markings is unique in the area . The Soderstorf graves were excavated by the Lüneburg Museum (around 1900) and the Helms Museum in the 1960s and 1970s. In the neighboring Oldendorf (Luhe) the remainder of a simultaneous urn grave field was excavated in the 1990s.
