Vögelsen is a municipality in the district of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony ( Germany ). The municipality of Vögelsen belongs to the joint municipality of Bardowick . Neu Vögelsen , located in the direction of Dachtmissen, also belongs to Vögelsen .

Geographical location

The place is about 5 km northwest of Lüneburg south of the federal highway 39 between Lüneburg, Reppenstedt , Dachtmissen , Mechtersen and Bardowick . Vögelsen and the towns of Reppenstedt, Adendorf and Bardowick as well as Deutsch Evern and Wendisch Evern form a more densely populated area around the core city of Lüneburg with a total of around 30,000 inhabitants.

history

Vögelsen was first mentioned on May 21, 1158 in a document from Verden. The document stipulated the obligation to pay the Bardowick monastery. In the Middle Ages, Vögelsen is also mentioned in documents under the names Vogelsen , Voghelsen and Voglissen .

Vögelsen was originally a small farming village, with old oak trees in its core. The eight farms from which Vögelsen originated are still here today. Unmistakable symbol for the unique name "Vögelsen" are the crested larks be. This native bird is widespread here.

Natural monuments

The part of Vögelsen pointing towards Lüneburg is separated from the historical part of Vögelsen by the cultural monument Alte Lüneburger Landwehr , a rampart from the 14th century. The wooded section between Reppenstedt and Vögelsen offers a special impression of the structure and size of the facility. An unpaved forest path makes it possible to hike the entire route.

The community has u. a. via a local center (supermarket with post office, banks, ice cream parlor, snack bar, flower shop, pharmacy, bakery, hairdresser, undertaker) as well as a special inpatient care facility specializing in people with dementia (Vögelsen OHG senior citizens' home), a parish center, a crib, a kindergarten and a Primary school with adjoining gym.

Vögelsen is on the road from Bardowick to Kirchgellersen . Local public transport is guaranteed by the Hamburg Transport Association with bus lines 5002, 5009 and 5404. Line 5002 runs Monday to Friday, between 8:38 a.m. and 5:48 p.m., every hour between Kiefernweg, Bardowick and the central bus station in Lüneburg , line 5009 runs i. d. R. every hour; every half hour during rush hour, line 5404 at rush hour when school starts and ends. Vögelsen was on the Wittenberge – Buchholz railway line .
