Culture and sights

Buildings

Remains of the monastery cloister

Remains of the Scharnebeck monastery have been preserved in and around the Protestant church of St. Mary . The Landtag of Scharnebeck , which was important for the history of the state and the Reformation, took place here in April 1527 , at which Duke Heinrich the Middle abdicated in favor of his son Ernst .

In the church there is a nationally known baroque organ with historical sound work.

The warehouse of the Scharnebeck domain is the last completely preserved building of the Cistercian monastery . It was built in the year 1510 from bricks and oak framework in the monastery format.

Scharnebeck - ship lift

The ship Scharnebeck is a section of the same-side channel , the connection between the same (height Artlenburg ) and the central land channel (at Wolfsburg forms).

Natural monuments

At the end of Mühlenstrasse on the bank of the mill pond are the remains of the monastery oak, which was one of the largest oaks in Lower Saxony with a trunk diameter of 2.40 m at a height of 1.30 m. The tree is around 750 years old. On April 21, 1994 at 4:28 a.m. the tree broke apart in complete calm. The rest of the pedunculate oak remains standing and is left to natural decay. In November 1994 a new oak was planted next to the old one.

Sports

Scharnebeck shooting club

The Scharnebeck v. 1896 eV is one of the largest shooting sports clubs in the region. With over 400 members and various shooting sports events in the annual calendar, as well as the largest shooting festival in the district, which takes place every year on the weekend of Pentecost, the club is an essential part of the social life of the community of Scharnebeck. The rifle club has extensively renovated facilities for light point shooting, pistol, small-caliber and large-caliber shooting ranges. There is also an archery department and its own marching band.

Riding and driving club Echem / Scharnebeck uUeVv 1920

The riding club was founded in 1920 in the neighboring village of Echem by mounted soldiers who had returned from World War I, as well as farmers and horse breeders from the Elbmarsch. After the Second World War, the association increasingly found its center in Scharnebeck. Today the club has approx. 450 members and is one of the most important equestrian clubs on the Lüneburg Heath.

Today's riding facility of the RFV is located directly on the Elbe Lateral Canal . The facility was moved into in 1984 after the association became homeless twice as a result of the construction work on the Scharnebeck ship lift. The facility has an indoor riding arena with stable wing, several outdoor and training areas and is used intensively for tournament equestrian sports. Several equestrian events take place there every year. The most important of these are the Scharnebecker Reitertage, held annually on the Ascension weekend. Here equestrian sport is offered at the maximum, national test level and thus attracts several thousand spectators to the riding facility. For this purpose, the riding facility was expanded several times.

The association also has its own riding school where children and young people can learn equestrian sports. A multi-purpose route that was set up on the eastern edge of the community of Scharnebeck was abandoned in the late 1990s.
