Career

player

Michael Krüger was active as a soccer player with SV Arminia Hannover in the 2nd Bundesliga , but became a soccer coach at the age of 27. For Arminia, the offensive midfielder completed 128 second division games from 1976 to 1980, in which he scored 19 goals. He also played in the amateur field for SV Scharnebeck , Hannover 96 , Bünder SV , 1. FC Paderborn and CSC 03 Kassel . Then he was player-coach at Delbrücker SC . After the end of his playing career, he confessed to taking Captagon during his time as an A-youth at Hannover 96 and accused teammates of Arminia Hannover to have swallowed the pills.

Trainer

After Krüger worked as Peter Neururer's assistant coach at FC Schalke 04 from 1987 to 1989 , he became head coach of Hannover 96 in September 1989 in the 2nd Bundesliga . There he was relieved of responsibility just a year later. After a year with the lower class VfV Hildesheim , Erich Rutemöller brought Krüger to the coaching staff of Hansa Rostock as an assistant coach . In the 1994/95 season, Krüger took over as coach at Holstein Kiel . In the summer of 1997 he was assistant coach at the Turkish first division team Samsunspor for half a year .

Michael Krüger then worked in Egypt. He won the African Cup Winners' Cup with the Club Arab Contractors . A year later he won the Egyptian Cup with the Al-Masry club . In 1998 Krüger returned to Germany and was a coach at Kickers Emden and the second team at VfL Wolfsburg .

From March 15, 2004, Krüger worked as a coach at Eintracht Braunschweig and in 2005 led the club back to the second Bundesliga. On October 4, 2006, Krüger and manager Wolfgang Loos were dismissed from Lower Saxony. The reason for this was the weak start to the season for Braunschweig, who finished last in the second division after six match days and also failed in the first round of the DFB Cup at regional division VfL Osnabrück .

On June 13, 2007 Krüger took over the coaching position of the relegated regional league 1. FC Saarbrücken ( Oberliga Südwest ), where Wolfgang Loos had already become the new manager in April 2007.

In January 2008, Krüger took over his new coaching position at the Sudanese club Al-Merrikh Khartoum , with whom he won the championship and the cup in 2008. There he was released in February 2009.

On September 22nd, 2009 Alemannia Aachen engaged Krüger as the new head coach of the second division team. His contract, which ran until June 30, 2011, was terminated after the 2009/10 season was over.

In the summer of 2010, Krüger was signed again with the German goalkeeping coach Christian Schweichler from the African club Al Merreikh, where he celebrated further successes by winning the cup and qualifying for the CAF Champions League. Nevertheless, Kruger decided not to extend his contract with Al Merreikh. At the end of August 2012, Michael Krüger went to Ethiopia again and became the coach of the top club Saint-George SA from Addis Ababa.

In 2014 he worked again as a trainer at Al-Merrikh Khartoum.

On June 2, 2015 the Neue Presse Hannover reported that Krüger will train the U23 of Hannover 96 from the 2015/2016 season.
