St. Vitus Church in Reinstorf

Reinstorf is a municipality and a village in the Ostheide municipality in the Lüneburg district in Lower Saxony .

Geographical location

Reinstorf is around twelve kilometers east of Lüneburg in Lower Saxony . Neighboring villages are Wendhausen , Holzen and Horndorf , Sülbeck , Neu Wendhausen and Neu Sülbeck, which are districts of the municipality of Reinstorf. Independent neighboring communities are Barendorf , Vastorf , Thomasburg and Neetze from the joint municipality of Ostheide as well as the joint municipality of Scharnebeck and the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg .

history

Reinstorf has existed for almost 900 years, because on September 27, 1124, the place and the St. Vitus Church were mentioned in a document from Pope Calixt II as confirmation of the ownership of the Rastede monastery in Oldenburg.

Until the 1960s, the place was the center of the surrounding villages with the church and school, a doctor, three inns and numerous handicraft businesses, all of which belong to the Reinstorf parish .

The village image has changed over the past 20 years. Some farms have closed down. The school, two of the three village bars, the shops, the savings bank and the post office no longer exist. The St. Vitus Church (consecrated to St. Vitus, a helper in need ), including the rectory and the St. Vitus Generation House of the Association for Home Care e. V., the shooting club Hubertus-Reinstorf and the surrounding area with the large club house and the shooting range, the volunteer fire brigade and the sports club. The Wirtschaftskreis Reinstorf e. V. tries to stimulate the economy through advertising and events in addition to the remaining craft and catering businesses.

In the 1980s, the house number system was replaced by street names and new house numbers.

In 2003, a new building area with 16 houses was built in the west of the village. In 2013, in time for the 888th anniversary celebrations as part of the village renewal, the road construction work with the renewal of the sewer system in large parts of the village was completed so that the townscape is friendly and hotel guests can enjoy the place again.

There are some prehistoric tombs in the municipality. The large stone grave Reinstorf is located south of the B 216. The large stone grave Holzen is located approx. 500 m north of the village of Holzen near the cemented sands, see list of natural monuments in the Lüneburg district . The giant beds at Horndorf are north of the village of Horndorf, approx. 1000 m east of Reinstorf.

Incorporations

On March 1, 1974, the communities Holzen , Horndorf and Wendhausen were incorporated.

The municipality of Reinstorf belongs to the state electoral district 48 Elbe and to the federal electoral district 38 Lüchow-Dannenberg - Lüneburg .

Around 1990, a farm on the main road was converted into a hotel. Meetings and training courses take place there on a regular basis.

There is a bus connection to Lüneburg. It runs three times a day.

Buildings

  • The St. Vitus Church in Reinstorf was built in 1059 and is therefore one of the oldest ecclesiastical buildings in the Lüneburg district. The brick church contains a remarkable altar wall directly behind the altar table.
  • Today's Petri Church in the Wendhausen district was created primarily through renovations in the 19th century. The brick church partly contains field stone masonry from the previous building.
