Elfriede Luisa Karolina Rotermund (born March 2, 1884 in Schlangen am Teutoburger Wald ; † January 3, 1966 in Flensburg ; born Elfriede Schönhagen ) was a German writer .

Life

Elfriede Rotermund worked as a teacher and initially made a name for herself through folklore and musicological studies. In 1912 she and her husband, Pastor Robert Rotermund, moved to Hallig Oland . During the sixteen years that she spent there, numerous short stories were written in which she described the “courageous and self-indulgent life of the Hallig residents, their tenacious love of their homeland, their deep piety, but also their solitary confinement” (Ulrich Schulte-Wülwer). In 1938 she was excluded from the Reichsschrifttumskammer . The couple had a close friendship with Hermann Löns, who died in 1914, and his second wife Lisa, as well as the painter Ingwer Paulsen .
