Echem is located west of the Elbufer-Drawehn nature park . The community belongs to the joint community of Scharnebeck , which has its administrative seat in the community of Scharnebeck .

Word research almost agrees that the first part of the word “eek” refers to the tree “oak” and “hem” stands for “home”. Udolph thinks that there is nothing to prevent Echem from thinking of an oak settlement. Parallel place names are Eichen, Aichen, Eickum, Eyckhem or Eitzum near Hildesheim.

  • Teaching and research institute for animal husbandry (LBZ) of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture. Here young people and adults learn how to handle farm animals. The facility specializes in education and training in cattle husbandry, but together with various partners also offers courses and seminars on many other agricultural topics. In addition, regular visits and "open days" take place in order to give those interested, who are not specialists, an insight into the topics of agriculture and animal husbandry.
  • The LBZ Echem was the first German educational institution in agriculture to receive certification according to DIN EN ISO 9001.
