Pelmke cultural center
The Pelmke cultural center is one of four free cultural centers in the city of Hagen , alongside the AllerWeltHaus , the Hasper Hammer and the Hohenlimburger Werkhof . It is located in the district of Wehringhausen . The managing director of the Pelmke eV cultural center is Jürgen Breuer.
history
The Pelmke cultural center was established in 1986 on the initiative of culturally and politically left-wing people in the Wehringhausen district and was opened in March 1987.
The building had previously been built and used as the "Pelmkeschule", a Catholic elementary school . It is in the immediate vicinity of St. Michael, the Catholic Church in Wehringhausen. The Pelmke school shared the playground with the neighboring community elementary school. The old building was vacated in 1986 because of a new comprehensive school building.
A prominent student at the Pelmke primary school was Gabriele Susanne Kerner, who became famous as one of the most successful German pop musicians from 1983 under the stage name " Nena " .
The sponsoring association of the cultural center has around 100 members and works on a district-specific basis. According to the legal form, it is a non-profit, registered association. This is a member of the umbrella organizations DPWV and the North Rhine-Westphalian LAG socio-cultural centers.
statute
The purpose of the statutes is to “contribute to the development of the coexistence of citizens of all age groups through educational and cultural offers. (The association) particularly promotes efforts by self-help organizations in the field of extracurricular education , youth and women’s work, culture and dealing with social problems. Here all racist, fascist and sexist currents are excluded ”. The Sociocultural Center provides social and cultural integration in the Wehringhausen district close to the city center. In addition to the individual events, it serves as a meeting point for children, adults, women and foreigners.
The basic democratic, public body is the “household effects”, to which all association members and other interested people have access and can discuss what is happening in the house. The household goods have a relatively large decision-making power. In addition, users present projects that they would like to organize in the Pelmke cultural center. All regular users of the cultural center, the employees, association members and the board of directors are entitled to vote in household items.
Premises
In the house there is an event hall, a bar, a cinema café, an art house cinema ( Kino Babylon ), a "body room " ( for courses, workshops), a " seminar room " (serves as a group, backstage, meeting room, etc.) and one and a half offices. There is also a workshop and a photo laboratory.
In the immediate vicinity, the cultural center also operated a restaurant (“Das Lokal”) for a while. Today it is run by private tenants.
program
The program of cultural events includes:

- Radio program The Pelmke Radiowahn program reports on news from Wehringhausen on the first Monday of every month . In addition to a program preview of the Pelmke, many ironic , senseless or satirical radio reports are produced and broadcast. The choice of music is more ska and punk . For three years, the program stagediver broadcast a 16-track concert recording from the cultural center on every third Sunday of the month, combined with a longer interview, to promote local up-and-coming bands. In order to be able to apply to other concert organizers, the bands were given a CD with the mastered concert recording free of charge. The broadcast was discontinued in June 2008.
There are also projects and open stages in cooperation with people from the district. Courses and workshops with a focus on body work ( Kundalini yoga , open juggling ) make up the range of courses. Awards
The jury of the State Music Council of North Rhine-Westphalia awarded the Pelmke Kulturzentrum's jazz series for several years each with the venue program award of 5000 euros. It recognized "the density and quality of your program in terms of bands that work locally or regionally effectively and pursue innovative concepts." The award was given in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
