Loosdrecht is a village in the municipality of Wijdemeren . It is located in the Dutch province of North Holland . Loosdrecht consists of two parts: Alt (Oud) -Loosdrecht and the much larger Neu (Nieuw) -Loosdrecht. Loosdrecht had 8,525 inhabitants in 2017.
It is near the broadcasting city of Hilversum . Loosdrecht is located in the middle of five lakes or ponds. These were created in the 14th century through excavations. The place is known for water sports, which many guests from Germany do here. Loosdrecht was also known for its porcelain manufacture. The pastor Joannes de Mol founded this as a working project.
Until 2003 Loosdrecht was an independent municipality. In 2002 the community was merged with the villages of Nederhorst den Berg , Kortenhoef and 's-Graveland . The new municipality of Wijdemeren was created. Until 2002 Loosdrecht was part of the province of Utrecht, but after the merger it became part of North Holland. For a long time Loosdrecht and its surroundings were owned by the noble family Van Amstel van Mijnden.
