The is a river in northeast Lower Saxony . It is a left tributary of the Ilmenau .
course
The Luhe rises in Soltau-Deimern in the Lüneburg Heath , but has no surface drainage from there. It finally comes to light near Bispingen and flows into the Ilmenau at Stöckte (district of Winsen (Luhe) ), which flows into the Elbe after another 3 km . From Bispingen to the mouth , the river is 58.2 km long.
Geology and prehistoric times
The Luhe rises on a terminal moraine ridge of the Lüneburg Heath and flows through the Geest as grayling waters to Luhmühlen, where the change to a Potamal (zone of the lowland river; area with warmer and sandy-muddy deposits on the ground) begins. The Luhetal widens to the north and the river reaches the Elbmarsch at Vierhöfen . At first there is valley sand, below Winsen silt and river sand predominate. In the middle of the 19th century the Luhe was regulated. The run was shortened and the flow speed increased.
The water is on average 7 to 12 m wide, has a water depth of around 1.50 m except in a few turns and behind weir steps and meanders strongly.
The mean current is around 4 km / h at normal water level (influenced by the tide from the mouth to the mill weir in Winsen). Tributaries are Brunau , Schwindebach , Lopau and Garlstorfer Aue. The source of the Schwindebach is the second largest source in Lower Saxony (60 l / s) and has been a nature reserve since 1936 .
The entire catchment area of the Luhe has been densely populated since the Neolithic Age, as evidenced by facilities such as the necropolis of Soderstorf and the Oldendorfer Totenstatt . At the height of today's city of Winsen, a passage over the Luhe has been controlled by the Winsener Castle since the 13th century .
Water quality
With the exception of a short section north of Bispingen , the Luhe has a water quality of quality class II (moderately polluted / β-mesosaprobic).
Fish stock
The Luhe is one of the most productive salmon and sea trout rivers in Germany. The existence is relatively secure. Recently there has been an increase in the occurrence of the crab .
Traffic rules
Until the beginning of the 20th century, the Luhe to Winsen was used by small ships, today there is no longer any commercial shipping on the route . It is a popular canoeing water for which special rules apply for nature conservation reasons.
