The Schmale Aue , also known as Aue in the lower reaches , is a 27.4 km long, south-southeastern and orographically right tributary of the Seeve in the northern Lüneburg Heath . It flows in the Lower Saxony districts of Heidekreis and Harburg .

course

The Narrow Aue rises in the Garlstorfer mountains , a natural area of the Lüneburg Heath belonging Hohenheide . Its source is in a moor south-southeast of Volkwardingen , a northern part of Bispingen , on the watershed between the Elbe and Weser .

The Schmale Aue flows in a north-northeast direction, takes on the Sprengebach from the left, turns north and crosses the border to the municipality of Egestorf . Then she takes the Kiesmoorbach from the left in the district of Döhle and the Hornbach from the right and from the left the Radenbach on her way to the north . Then the Schmale Aue changes its course to the north-northwest. At the Egestorfer Sudermühle it is dammed up to a mill pond, between the Egestorf districts of Sahrendorf and Schätzendorf it takes the Büner Bach from the right and then crosses the border to the municipality of Hanstedt . On its way through the municipality, it takes the Hummingen Bach from the right, the Ortbach from the left, the Langenbach from the left and the Großer Bach from the right before reaching the Marxen municipality . There it is on long stretches of Grenzbach to the municipality of Asendorf , from which the Moorbach flows from the left.

The Schmale Aue flows between Jesteburg in the southwest and Marxen in the east-southeast from the right into the Seeve tributary of the Elbe, which is about 5 km shorter but richer in water .

Valley and catchment area

The Schmale Aue drains the northeastern slope of the Hohe Heide in the area of the Wilseder Berg . This also includes the valley basin of the Totengrund . Above Sudermühlen the valley is spacious with mostly low slopes, but after that it has an exceptionally strong relief for the north German lowlands and at the same time the deepest valley of the Lüneburg Heath with a maximum value of over 90 meters between the Hanstedter mountains (129 m) and the Ahrberg ( 145 m).

Flora and fauna

The brook lamprey occurs in the brook . Grayling , brown trout and sea trout are found in fish . The body of water is partially FFH area . The Schmale Aue is critically polluted in the upper reaches, in the Volkwardingen area (quality class II-III) and in the lower reaches, moderately polluted (quality class II).

Traffic rules

Due to the intensive use of the Seeve by canoeists, the Harburg district issued an ordinance in 2002 for the Seeve, its backwaters and the associated bank areas, which is intended to protect the habitat of plants and animals. Since then, driving and entering the Schmalen Aue has been prohibited all year round.
