Rolf Lüer

Rolf Lüer (born May 18, 1929 in Salzhausen ; † March 4, 2013 in Egestorf ) was a German bank manager and local researcher who was awarded the Lower Saxony Order of Merit for his services to the cooperative system .

Life

His parents were the bank manager Rudolf Lüer (1895 - 1978) and his wife Elisabeth Lüer geb. Kiel (1902-1981). From 1940 he attended the Johanneum in Lüneburg , graduated from high school and from 1949 studied English and German at the University of Göttingen .

Professional development

He gave up studies and in 1951 went to the savings and loan fund Egestorf. In 1960 he became head of the then savings and loan fund Egestorf. This was merged in 1969 with Volksbank Nordheide, which has the legal form of an eG, registered cooperative. After the merger, he worked for Volksbank Nordheide (today Volksbank Lüneburger Heide ) as a board member, from 1980 to 1989 he was its chairman. In 1999 he was again active as a board member for his bank.

Rolf Lüer was a visionary in his cooperative bank and developed innovative ideas for business promotion. Eg: He introduced a mobile customer service. Bank experts with many years of experience are equipped with VW Beetles and advise customers on site. In 1979, Volksbank Nordheide introduced a regionally valid credit card, the bank pass, and designed new banking services. Voluntary work

In 1989 Lüer retired from active service in order to devote himself more to the history of the cooperatives in his region: he studied history and political science at the University of Hamburg and received his doctorate in 1997 with a thesis on the history of the Volksbanks in the former district of Winsen , the In 1998 it was published under the title "Social Claim and Economic Rationality".

After his retirement and alongside his studies, he collected material on the history of Volksbank Nordheide , later also on the cooperative movement and the Volksbanks in his region, and initiated the establishment of a company archive. This work resulted in the establishment of the Genossenschaftliches Archiv Foundation in 2002 ; from 2002 to 2003 he was chairman of the foundation's board of directors. The Volksbanks of the Harburg , Lüneburg and Heidekreis districts are involved in the Genossenschaftliches Archiv Foundation .

Lüer was also a co-founder of the Egestorf Heimatverein in the 1980s, for which he edited a number of publications.

He was also a founding member of the Rotary Club of Winsen , of which he was president in 1991 and honorary mayor from 1968 to 1970 and council member ( CDU ) from 1968 to 1972 of the Egestorf community. He was chairman of the school parents' council , church supervisor , board member of the tourist association , the Lüneburger Heide nature reserve association from 1968 to 1994 and a member of the plenary assembly of the Lüneburg - Wolfsburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry from 1982 to 1989.

Lüer was married to Charlotte Lüer, b. Steffen and had two grown daughters and three grandchildren. He lived in Egestorf.
