Cooperative archive

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The cooperative archive in Hanstedt (sometimes abbreviated as Genoarchiv online ) documents the history of the cooperatives in the Lower Saxony districts of Harburg , Lüneburg and Heidekreis .

background

Cooperatives were one answer to the social question of the 19th century. Around 1890 the cooperative movement also reached today's districts of Harburg, Lüneburg and Heidekreis. Today's Volksbank was founded in Lüneburg as early as 1859 . In this region, in addition to numerous credit cooperatives, purchasing and sales cooperatives, dairy cooperatives, water pipeline cooperatives and other cooperative operations were founded. Social and economic change led to a concentration process that made the original cooperative structures disappear.

Duration

The archive collects documents and objects on the history of the cooperatives in the three districts. This includes, in particular, annual financial statements, audit reports, business reports, minutes, press reports, photos and characteristic file processes. There are documents from more than 140 cooperatives, including over 50 credit cooperatives, purchasing and sales cooperatives and the only cooperative hospital in Germany, the Salzhausen hospital .

The archive also serves the memory of outstanding personalities of the cooperative movement, such as the Egestorf pastor Wilhelm Bode (1860–1927). The archive library partly contains valuable books on the history of the cooperative system and regional history, including original editions of the writings of Hermann Schulze-Delitzsch , Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen and Wilhelm Bode. Founder was Dr. Rolf Lüer .

organization

The archive is operated by the Genossenschaftliches Archiv Foundation , which was established in 2002 for this purpose by several Volksbanks in Lower Saxony. It is under the patronage of the Lower Saxony Ministry of Economics, Labor and Transport.
