Ludwig Martinelli (born August 9, 1832 in Linz , Upper Austria ; † June 13, 1913 in Bad Gleichenberg , Styria ) was an Austrian actor and director.

Like his father, Martinelli learned the profession of decorative painter, a. a. with Ferdinand Georg Waldmüller , and then works in the studio of the Hufburg theater painter Moriz Lehmann. It was thanks to a bet that he first appeared on the stage in Innsbruck in 1856 in the Nestroy pose "Der Tritschtratsch". In this bet, he declared that he would become an actor within eight days. His first acting performance in a play brought such success that he focused on the art of acting. From 1857 to 1860 he then played in Munich in the suburban theater in der Au.

From 1860 to 1864 he worked as an actor and chief director at the Grand Théatre in Amsterdam , from 1864–73 at the Graz City Theater. He achieved his artistic breakthrough in 1871 in “ Der Pfarrer von Kirchfeld ”, based on Ludwig Anzengruber , then from 1873 to 1876 at the Theater an der Wien . From 1876 to 1885 he was a member of the German State Theater in Prague, after which he worked as chief director at the Carltheater in Vienna. From 1889 to 1908 Martinelli was engaged at the Deutsches Volkstheater in Vienna, where he also worked as a director.

Martinelli was an excellent Anzengruber actor and an important popular actor.

His first wife was Marie Neufeld , his second marriage was to Louise Seeberger . The daughter Anna Martinelli (* 1878) from this marriage also became a stage actress.

His grave of honor is in the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 32 A, number 36). The grave monument created by the sculptor Johann Scherpe was unveiled in 1916. In 1930 Ludwig-Martinelli-Gasse in Vienna- Meidling was named after the actor.
