history

precursor

Volksbank Lueneburg

The first attempts to found the Volksbank Lüneburg were made as early as 1857 , but were rejected by the Kingdom of Hanover . On August 29th, 1859, the "Vornahmverein zu Lüneburg" and thus the forerunner of the "Volksbank Lüneburg" was founded in the town hall of Lüneburg. It has had this name since 1938. In 1926 the bank, which was still called "Vereinsbank Lüneburg" at that time, took over the "Savings and advance payment association to Winsen / Luhe". This was followed by takeovers of banks in Amelinghausen (1985), Wittorf (1987) and Bleckede - Dahlenburg (2003).

Volksbank Walsrode

On March 25, 1909, Volksbank Walsrode was founded under the name "Spar- und Kreditverein eGmbH". In 1939 it was renamed "Volksbank Walsrode". After taking over the savings and loan banks Gilten and Ahlden as well as the Volksbank in Visselhövede , which until then also included a branch in Bothel , it was merged with Volksbank eG, Soltau in 1999.

Volksbank Soltau

On February 5, 1899, the "Soltauer Spar- und Kreditskassenverein eGmbH" was founded, which was renamed in 1923 in "Soltauer Bank" and in 1939 in Volksbank Soltau . The People's Bank Soltau took over in 1975, the "credit union Munster ", 1989, the "savings and loan bank Schneverdingen " and 1998 "Volksbank Bispingen ".

Volksbank Nordheide

The Volksbank Nordheide was created in 1969 from the "Spar- and loan fund Hanstedt and the savings and loan fund Egestorf ". After several takeovers of smaller banks, the banks in Salzhausen and Winsen (Luhe) were added in 1987 . The headquarters of Volksbank Nordheide was then relocated to Winsen. In 2000, the bank also took over Volksbank in Buchholz (founded in 1955) and at the same time relocated its headquarters there.

Foundation and expansion through mergers

In 1999 Volksbank eG, Soltau was merged with Volksbank Walsrode eG and renamed itself to Volksbank Lüneburger Heide eG .

On January 1st, 2008 the "Volksbank Lüneburger Heide" and the "Volksbank Lüneburg" merged and from then on operated under the name "Volksbank Lüneburger Heide eG". From a legal point of view, the larger "Volksbank Lüneburger Heide" based in Soltau (EUR 700 million balance sheet total, 60,000 customers) took over the Lüneburger Bank (EUR 400 million, 40,000 customers), but there should be equal cooperation. The seat was moved to Lüneburg . At that time the bank operated 28 branches and 12 self-service branches and had total assets of 1148 million euros, employed 320 people and had 34,000 members.

In July 2011, retroactive to January 1, 2011, there was another merger with Volksbank Nordheide, which is roughly the same size . The name "Volksbank Lüneburger Heide eG" was retained for the new bank, and the seat was moved to Winsen (Luhe) .
