Harmstorf is a municipality in the Harburg district in Lower Saxony . It belongs to the joint municipality of Jesteburg , which has its administrative seat in the municipality of Jesteburg .
geography
Harmstorf is located north of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park and south of the Elbe in the eastern foothills of the Harburg Mountains . The river Seeve forms the eastern border of the municipality for a few kilometers. Harmstorf borders clockwise on Seevetal , Bendestorf and Rosengarten .
The state border with the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg is around seven kilometers north of Harmstorf, and downtown Hamburg is around 23 kilometers away. The distance to the district town of Winsen is around 15 kilometers in an easterly direction, the Hanseatic city of Lüneburg is around 30 kilometers from Harmstorf.
history
The community is said to have been mentioned for the first time around the year 1000 in connection with a refuge for the Ramelsloh Abbey. Harmstorf was first mentioned in a document from the 16th century as Herimannestorpe, later Hermsdorff.
In the 19th century, there were nine farms in Harmstorf, plus eleven farmers. After World War II, Harmstorf developed into a place characterized by residential development.

The motorways A1 and A7 leading north and east around the municipality. The L213 (Hamburg - Egestorf) leads through Harmstorf. Hamburg Airport is around 30 kilometers north of Harmstorf. The place itself has no connection to rail traffic. The next train stations are in Klecken, Hittfeld and Maschen.
