Geographical location

Kakenstorf is located northwest of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park . The municipality belongs to the Tostedt joint municipality , which has its administrative seat in the municipality of Tostedt . In the municipality of Kakenstorf, the Dohrener Mühlenbach , Dresteder Bach, Kakenstorfer Bach, Sprötzer Bach and Todtglüsinger Bach flow into the Este .

Up to 1900 the communities Kakenstorf, Drestedt , Trelde and Sprötze formed the community Die Vierdörfer , from which today's community emerged. Drestedt is now an independent municipality. Trelde and Sprötze were incorporated into the town of Buchholz in Nordheide on July 1st, 1972 .

Place name

Old names of the place were around 1,055 Cacamannesthorp 13, mid century Kakemannestorpe , 1322 Cokemestorpe and mid-15th century Kakemannestorpe .

The name is derived from "village of a Kak-mann". "Kak" is probably a Low German given name. It also occurs in family names such as "Dunkake", which means "swollen cheek".

Incorporations

On July 1, 1972, the neighboring community of Bötersheim was incorporated.
