The districts Wuhlenburg , Rosenweide and Fliegenberg are right on the southern banks of the Elbe. The districts of Achterdeich and the northern part of the main town of Stelle are still in the marshland, the southern part of the main town as well as Ashausen and Büllhorn are on the Geest, on the northern ends of the glacial moraine landscape on the southern edge of the Elbe glacial valley. In the south of the community in the direction of Ohlendorf and Holtorfsloh lies the Buchwedel, a wooded area with a mixed beech forest with the highest elevations. Stelle is located with its own train station on the Hanover – Hamburg line (approx. 30 minutes), and also on the 39 (A 39) Hamburg - Lüneburg motorway . history

Stelle was first mentioned in a document in 1197. Ecclesiastically, the Steller villages belonged partly to Pattensen , partly to Winsen . It was not until the second half of the 20th century that parishes of their own were formed in Stelle, Ashausen andiegenberg.

In 2008 a memorial - consisting of a memorial stone with a plaque - was unveiled for the young Polish slave laborer Julian Milejski , who was executed here on May 4, 1942 by the National Socialists for " racial disgrace ".

Incorporations

The municipality of Achterdeich became part of the municipality of Stelle in 1968. On July 1, 1972, the communities Ashausen (with Büllhorn), Fly Mountain and Rosenweide (with Wuhlenburg) were incorporated. On July 1, 1981, a part of the district town of Winsen (Luhe) was added, with around 80 inhabitants at that time.

There are also close contacts to Bording in the Danish Ikast-Brande municipality and to Notodden (Norway) with frequent mutual visits, organized by the partnership committee.

church

There are own Evangelical Lutheran parishes in Stelle, Ashausen andiegenberg.

In Stelle there were initiatives in 1861 to form their own parish so that they no longer have to go to Pattensen for church services. In 1866 a chapel board was formed , which initiated the construction of a church. The three - nave neo - Gothic brick church of St. Michael was inaugurated in 1868. Place continued to belong to Pattensen and became an independent parish in 1955. In 1968 the nave was enlarged and a bell tower was added. Four bells ring in it, each with the names “Faith”, “Love”, “Hope” and “Peace” after a keyword in their inscriptions. The three windows of the choir room were designed in 1930 with motifs for Christmas, Easter and Pentecost.

The beginnings of today's Evangelical Free Church Congregation ( Baptists ) go back to 1848. In 1869, 80 people were part of it when an initially dependent daughter congregation of the Baptist congregation in Hamburg was founded. In 1890 the first own chapel was built; In 1905 the congregation became independent and employed its first pastor. As the community continued to grow, a new chapel was built in 1914. In principle, this still exists today. In 1997 there was extensive expansion work. With currently around 180 members, there are considerations for further spatial expansion.

Attractions

In the historical center of the village, the established structure of the place with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. Michael (1868, tower 1968), school (today library or town hall), Dorfkrug (inn) and farms (Menke, Schulten-Behr) can still be roughly read . The old school building right next to the church was later the teacher's house and now houses the community library, the younger school building is now the town hall.

There is a private museum on the history of the Stelle community at Hof Behr.

There are former water towers in Stelle andfly Mountain. The gravel tower in Ashausen was reminiscent of an important employer: the Steinhage gravel works. In 2011 it was released for demolition by the community - and resisted several attempts.

In Ashausen, Lindenstrasse is the old village street and the center of the flea market that takes place on the 1st Sunday in June and attracts over 10,000 visitors. At its western end is Dat Ole Huus, which the Ashausen Heimatverein preserved and renovated.

There is also an educational forest trail in Buchwedel and the wedding forest, which is laid out in several parts and is accessible from the “Am Osterfeld” road, among other places. The Steller outdoor pool is a magnet for visitors.

economy

Due to its proximity to the city of Hamburg and its convenient location, Stelle is a location for commercial enterprises and a place of residence in the country for former Hamburg residents. The population has increased in the last few decades due to immigration. Even in the main town there are still some producing farms, one of the farms in the Rosenweide district has now become a Europe-wide company for growing and selling lettuce. Place is a station of the metronom regional , which runs on the Hanover – Hamburg railway approximately every hour between Hamburg and Lüneburg.

The gymnastics and sports club Stelle von 1907/19 e. V. was founded in 1907. With 2525 members (as of January 1, 2006) it is one of the largest associations in the Harburg district.
