Michael Mertens (born December 27, 1965 in Stelle ) is a former German shot putter .

Athletic career

Michael Mertens won a total of six bronze and two silver medals at the German Athletics Championships . At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta , he failed with a width of 19.07 m in qualification and took 16th place overall. Four years later he was able to qualify again for the Olympic Games in Sydney , but he failed again in the qualifying round and took 26th place.
