St. Godehard (Amelinghausen)
The Sankt Godehard Church is the Catholic church in Sottorf , a village in the Amelinghausen community in the Lüneburg district in Lower Saxony . It is the westernmost church in the dean's office Lüneburg and a branch church of the parish of St. Marien , based in Lüneburg , in the diocese of Hildesheim . The church, named after St. Godehard von Hildesheim , is located in Gärtnerweg 10. The catchment area of the church includes the Amelinghausen community and parts of the Gellersen and Ilmenau communities .
history
After a result of the Second World War in the since the introduction of the Reformation Protestant region Amelinghausen Catholic refugees and expellees had settled, was Godehard's Church St. built in the then independent municipality Sottorf the. On May 31, 1962, the feast of the Ascension of Christ , her benediction was given by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen .
At times a branch church of the parish of St. Maria Assumpta in Egestorf , the church has belonged to the parish of St. Marien in Lüneburg since August 1st, 2004. The church never had a local priest .
Architecture and equipment
The church, which is almost 59 meters above sea level , was built according to plans by the architect Hans Hübscher from Wolfsburg and is entered through an entrance tower crowned with a cross. The church is furnished with a statue of St. Godehard, and windows depict scenes from his life.
