Norbert Leben (born September 20, 1946 in Salzhausen ) is a German farmer and forest manager , forestry association official and Lower Saxony local politician ( CDU ). He has been President of the Lower Saxony Forest Owners Association since 2008.

Life

career path

Norbert Leben comes from a farming family from Schätzendorf in the Nordheide ( Harburg district ). After training in agriculture, he took over his parents' agricultural and forestry business, which he and his wife expanded to include an inn with a restaurant and boarding house. His main job has been managing director of Nordheide-Forst-Service GmbH since 1999, which turns an average of 150,000 cubic meters per year.

Promoted to Colonel of the Reserve in 1998 , he was involved in ensuring the logistics of Operation Allied Force in 1999 in the wake of the Kosovo War. Norbert Leben is a well-known representative of the interests of private forest ownership at district, state and federal level. This commitment began in 1985 as a member of the board of the Egestorf-Hanstedt forestry company , which he took over as chairman in 1989. He still holds this office today (as of 2011). In 1991 he became executive chairman of the Forestry Association (FWV) Nordheide-Harburg with 32,000 hectares of member area. In March 1999 he was elected President of the Hanover Forest Owners Association. In 2006 the association had 35,000 members with an area of ​​around 400,000 hectares. Since September 2008 Leben has been President of the newly founded Forest Owners Association of Lower Saxony . He is also active in the presidium of the Lower Saxony State Hunting Association and as a board member of the former Hanover Chamber of Agriculture and then the Lower Saxony Chamber of Agriculture .

From 2000 to 2007, as chairman of the regional PEFC working group in Lower Saxony, he played a key role in the certification of the forest there.

Norbert Leben is known nationwide above all as Vice President of the Working Group of German Forest Owners' Associations (AGDW) . In the AGDW he also heads the committee for forestry associations. There and as a member of the executive committee of the German Forestry Council , he campaigns nationwide for the preservation of private forest ownership as well as the recognition and financial compensation of the water services of the forest companies. Honorary positions

In addition, he performs the duties of the district hunter master and thus also the chairman of the hunting council of the Harburg district, is chairman of the advisory board of the nature conservation foundation of the district of Harburg and managing director of the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge in the district association Harburg. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Naturparkregion Lüneburger Heide eV association founded in 2006.

Honors

In recognition of his longstanding commitment to the interests of the private forest, the Federal President awarded him the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany in 2009 . In 2013 the German Forest Association awarded him the "Lorenz Wappes Prize" for outstanding achievements in the public presentation of forestry and the forest.
