Reports
Day 1, Shakedown (Thursday, August 21)
Volkswagen drivers Jari-Matti Latvala , Sébastien Ogier and Andreas Mikkelsen finished first to third in the shakedown of the Rally Germany . An event that took place for the audience and was not part of the overall ranking. In an accident, Thierry Neuville slipped into the vines and rolled over several times. Despite major damage, the car was able to be repaired for the first special stage.
Day 2 (Friday, August 22nd)
Sébastien Ogier (Volkswagen) won four of the six special stages on the first day of the Rallye Deutschland . On the last special stage of the day, Ogier came off the road and then drove the damaged car back to the service park without finishing special stage 6. Team mate Jari-Matti Latvala benefited from Ogier's mishap. In the evening he led the overall standings with 37 seconds ahead of Kris Meeke (Citroën) and Dani Sordo (Hyundai) by over 42 seconds. World champion Ogier starts on Saturday under the rally 2 regulations with a ten-minute penalty.
Quote Sébastien Ogier : "The car was damaged a little more because the jump was pretty brutal."
Day 3 (Saturday, August 23)
In the second special stage of the day (Peterberg 1), Sébastien Ogier ( Volkswagen Polo R WRC ) had a serious accident. After a hard hit in a guardrail, Ogier and co-driver Julien Ingrassia had to go to the hospital to be examined. No injury was found in either of them. Since the guardrail, which was badly damaged in the accident, could not be repaired in time, the special stage in the afternoon (Peterberg 2) had to be shortened and started behind the accident site. With heavier rain in the afternoon the service got worse and worse. Dani Sordo ( Hyundai i20 WRC ) lost third place to team-mate Thierry Neuville because of a spin. Both came closer and closer to second-placed Kris Meeke ( Citroën DS3 WRC ). Jari-Matti Latvala started Sunday with a lead of 56.6 seconds on Meeke. Neuville was in third place, 4.3 seconds behind Meeke and 25.9 seconds ahead of last year's winner Sordo.
Quote from Dani Sordo: «We were in sixth gear and we drove at full throttle. A hard braking maneuver resulted in aquaplaning , the car slipped and we went off the track. Not very pleasant. "
4th day (Sunday, August 24th)
The 15th special stage (Dhrontal 1) was tough. After Robert Kubica (10th place) won two special stages, seven and twelve, at the Rallye Deutschland, he was canceled on Sunday morning due to a technical defect. Leader Jari-Matti Latvala fared even worse . He got off the road and rolled down a vineyard until he stopped at a railing. Kris Meeke took the lead after SS 15. But Meeke shouldn't be the winner of the rally either. In SS 16 he hit a wall and had to stop because he had torn off a rear wheel. Hyundai took the lead with Thierry Neuville at the top and his teammate Dani Sordo in second place. Thierry Neuville won the Rally Germany and, like Hyundai , celebrated its first WRC victory. Teammate Dani Sordo took second place. The three additional World Championship points for victory at the Power Stage went to Elfyn Evans (Ford), Neuville got two points and Mikko Hirvonen got one point for third place. In the world championship, Ogier leads Latvala with 187 to 143 points.
