The historical name DS was revived for the first time, but now as part of the name of the DS line positioned above the C models . The main competitors of the Citroën DS3 in the so-called "lifestyle" segment are the MINI, which has been available since mid-2001, and the Alfa Romeo MiTo, which was introduced in autumn 2008 .

The DS 3 is technically based on the second generation C3 , differs in terms of design and is also characterized by a wide range of options for visual customization, such as two-tone paintwork. It is the outwardly almost unchanged series implementation of the Citroën DS Inside study from 2009.

The DS 3 Crossback is not the successor to the small car. The small car was initially built with the introduction of the crossover SUV .

Body styles

The DS3 is offered as a compact three-door hatchback sedan and as a convertible sedan (DS3 Cabrio) with a Webasto folding roof that can be opened in three positions.

Equipment variants

In Germany the DS3 is available in four equipment variants:

The Chic basic equipment is currently available for the VTi 82, VTi 95 EGS, VTi 95 LPG and e-HDi 70 airdream engines. It contains, among other things, ABS with brake assist, ESP with ASR, cruise control and limiter, MP3-CD radio with AUX input and fog lights. Six airbags and 16-inch steel rims also come as standard. Air conditioning is available at an additional cost.

In addition to LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels and tinting of the rear windows in the SoChic version, the manually adjustable air conditioning is also included in the scope of delivery. In addition, the seat covers are made of high quality fabric. The petrol engines VTi 82 and VTi 120 as well as the diesel engines e-HDi 90 airdream and e-HDi 115 airdream are currently available.

The equipment version Sport Chic is based on version SoChic and has, among others, in addition 3D LED taillights, a hi-fi system with USB port and Bluetooth - hands-free system , air conditioning with automatic control and 17-inch alloy wheels in black. Another characteristic are two chrome-plated exhaust pipes. The model also has sports seats with again higher quality Alcantara seat covers. The SportChic version can only be combined with the THP 155 (previously THP 150) and e-HDi 115 airdream (previously HDi 110) engines.

The regular top equipment is called Ultra Prestige and is based on the SportChic version ; it is currently only available for the hatchback sedan. In addition, the standard equipment includes two-tone paintwork, a navigation system, high-quality leather seats with a color gradient including leather-covered dashboard, rain sensor, rear parking sensors and automatic headlights. The Ultra Prestige version can only be combined with the THP 155 and e-HDi 115 airdream motors.

The DS3 can be extensively customized. Apart from various additional equipment, a different roof color can be selected in addition to the vehicle color, the paintwork of the exterior mirrors is then based on the roof color or is replaced by a chrome-plated version. In addition, the color of the dashboard insert can be matched to the color of the roof. Furthermore, the buyer can choose from various decorative roof stickers in conjunction with matching floor mats. Different fabric and leather combinations are available depending on the exterior color and equipment line. With the DS3 Cabrio, the hood is available in three different colors, depending on the exterior color and equipment line.

In 2015, DS Automobiles presented the special model DS 3 Limited Edition 1955 on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Citroën DS .

On the chassis side, the DS3 Racing has a track width that has been increased by 30 millimeters and a sports chassis with 18-inch alloy wheels that has been lowered by 15 millimeters. The Citroën DS3 was initially available with three different petrol and two diesel engines. In December, the limited DS3 Racing followed with the THP 200, which has an output of 152 kW (207 hp) and, despite an additional output of 51 hp compared to the THP 155, has 0.3 l less fuel consumption.

The THP 155, THP 200 and e-HDi 115 engines are combined with a six-speed manual gearbox, the other engines with a five-speed gearbox as standard. The VTi 95 (petrol version) can be combined with an automated five-speed manual transmission (EGS) , the VTi 120 optionally with a four-speed automatic transmission. The e-HDi 90 is optionally available with the automated six-speed manual transmission "EGS6".

The HDi 90 and e-HDi 90 are the same engines, but the e-HDi 90 has micro-hybrid technology, consisting of brake energy recovery and a further developed stop-start system that connects to the engine via a V-belt connected reversible starter generator works. After each stop, the e-HDi 90 starts up again within 400 milliseconds. This measure is intended to reduce consumption by around 15%.

The new 50 kW e-HDi 70 diesel engine, which is equipped with a stop-start system, has also been available since the end of 2011. This engine has a combined consumption of 3.4 l / 100 km. At the same time, the other diesel engines received the e-HDi micro-hybrid technology as standard.

Since June 2012 the VTi 95 has also been available as a liquid gas model. In this model the petrol tank holds 50 liters, the overpressure tank for the liquid gas is 33 liters.

In November 2012, the previous basic gasoline engine VTi 95 was replaced by the completely newly developed three-cylinder engine "PureTech VTi 82".

The DS3 convertible introduced in 2013 is currently only available with the VTi 82, VTi 120, THP 155 and e-HDi 90 engines.
