The Citroën Type 23 , also known as the U23 , was a small truck and omnibus that Citroën brought out in 1935. Although the hood and the entire front part of the vehicle looked similar to the Citroën Traction Avant , the Type 23 had conventional rear-wheel drive . The vehicle was used by almost all armies, especially the French, British and Polish, during World War II.

Production lasted for a very long time, from 1935 to 1969. From the beginning of World War II to the German invasion of France, more than 12,000 of the vehicles were delivered in less than ten months. There were two different body styles as the U23 was completely redesigned in 1953/54. The successor to the Citroën Type 23 was the Citroën Belphégor . In total, the car was sold 121,902 times.

The gasoline engine is a widespread Citroën development and has a displacement of 1911 cm 3 . It was used in many vehicles from the Traction Avant to the H and DS .

The diesel engine is either from Perkins or Indénoor and has a displacement of 3,150 cubic centimeters.

The payload is 1,500 to 2,500 kg , depending on the model .
