The Citroën C5 Aircross is a compact SUV that has been produced by Citroën since 2017 in the Chengdu factory in China, since 2018 in the PSA plant in Rennes and since 2020 in Tiruvallur, India as the successor to the Citroën C4 Aircross . Derived from Aircross - concept , the Citroën April 2015 at the Shanghai Motor Show has revealed the production version was officially presented on 18 April 2017 the Shanghai Motor Show for the market launch in September 2017 in China. The market launch in Europe took place in February 2019. Like the Peugeot 5008 II , the DS7 Crossback or Opel Grand Country X builds the SUV on the EMP2 - platform on the PSA Group.
development
Although the car is similar to the C3 Aircross , it is significantly larger and located in a segment that lies above it. In addition, the brand does not want to use the series of models "4" ( C4 , C4 Picasso and C4 Cactus ) for this purpose and the C5 Aircross also has to avoid too strong internal competition with the related Peugeot 3008 and Opel Grandland X , which are priced in one similar area. In addition, the SUV must temporarily fill the gap in the European market caused by the discontinuation of production of the C5 sedan in Rennes (to make way for assembly lines for the Peugeot 5008 ).
Introduced on April 18, 2017 in its standard version as part of the Shanghai Motor Show, the C5 Aircross came onto the Chinese market in September 2017. It was presented in Europe at the Mondial Paris Motor Show in October 2018. The market launch took place here on February 9, 2019.
Characteristic
The C5 Aircross accommodates the air cushions with polyurethane coating ("airbumps") of the concept vehicle on the thresholds, some of which are colored like those of the C3 , but more subtle. The double-sided front, part of all new Citroën models, can be found here in a stretched form. However, the 3D-effect taillights are being abandoned in favor of rectangular four-optical lamps.
On the technical side, the C5 Aircross is part of the Citroën “Advanced Comfort” program. The efforts focused in particular on the interior, the lighting conditions there (especially thanks to a large panoramic sliding roof) and driving comfort using a new system with progressive hydraulic shock absorbers . There is a 12.3-inch TFT display and an 8-inch capacitive HD touchscreen . In terms of driver assistance systems, the C5 Aircross offers, among other things, automatic emergency braking , blind spot monitoring / warning or adaptive cruise control (with automatic braking function). The proven technologies of the PSA Group, such as grip control (a kind of advanced traction control ) and hill start assist, are also offered.
Motorization
The C5 Aircross uses the latest PSA engines: essentially the gasoline engines , PureTech, with 96 kW and 133 kW and the diesel engine , called BlueHDi, with 96 kW and 133 kW. Depending on the configuration, these motors are connected to the usual manual gearbox or to the Aisin Seiki EAT6 6- speed automatic gearbox . The latter will be replaced by the next generation EAT8.
Citroën has also announced that the C5 Aircross will be the first vehicle in its range to also feature a hybrid battery. This technology, which is also planned for the DS7 Crossback , will consist of a 132 kW internal combustion engine coupled to two electric motors that together produce 80 kW. The 200-volt lithium-ion battery of the plug-in hybrid has a capacity of 13.2 kWh and should move the vehicle up to 50 km purely electrically. This variant has been offered since the end of 2019.
In China, the C5 Aircross has two turbo-charged gasoline engines that are also used in the DS 6 . It is not driven by diesel engines.
