Rudolf Post (born August 29, 1944 in Bad Salzschlirf ) is a German linguist , dialect researcher and lexicographer .

Life and research

Rudolf Post grew up as the third child of five siblings in Bad Salzschlirf. After attending primary school, an apprenticeship as a mechanic in Fulda followed . In 1968 he passed the Abitur on the second educational path . This was followed by studies of theology , philosophy and German in Fulda and Mainz . In 1974 he passed the first state examination for teaching at grammar schools for German and Catholic religious studies . From 1974 to 1977 he was in the graduate program of Philosophy, Romance Studies and German Studies, followed by the second state examination in 1978. In 1982 he became the specialist German on Romanesque borrowings in the West Central German dialects doctorate .

Rudolf Post is married and has one daughter.

Career history

From 1978 to 1981 Rudolf Post was a research associate at the German Institute of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , where he also completed his doctorate. Then from 1981 to 1997 he was head of the Palatinate Dictionary in Kaiserslautern, a project of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz. During this period he also carried out various teaching assignments at the University of Mannheim , Department of German Linguistics. After completing the Palatinate Dictionary , Rudolf Post switched to the Baden Dictionary , where he headed this position at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg from 1998 to 2009. There he also held regular teaching positions at the Institute for German Language and Older Literature.

Rudolf Post has been retired since 2009 and lives in Gabsheim .
