Efficient Modular Platform 2
The Efficient Modular Platform 2 ( EMP2 ) is a platform concept for automobiles from Groupe PSA and a cooperation with Toyota . Since 2013, numerous vehicle models from Groupe PSA, including Peugeot , Citroën , DS, as well as Opel and Vauxhall, have been based on the EMP2 platform . The EMP2 platform was first used in production vehicles in the Citroën C4 Picasso and the Peugeot 308 II . At Opel and Vauxhall, the Grandland X was the first vehicle on this platform.
Conception
The EMP2 platform was designed for the higher vehicle segments from the compact class and for larger SUVs . In the smaller segments, however, newer vehicles from Groupe PSA are mostly based on the Common Modular Platform ( CMP ), which was initially called Efficient Modular Platform 1 ( EMP1 ). As part of PSA's technical strategy, the CMP and EMP2 platforms are to form the group-wide basis in future.
In addition to conventional forms of drive using petrol and diesel engines , plug-in hybrids in combination with petrol engines are also planned from 2019 . In the coming years, however, vehicles with a purely electric drive are to be based on a variant of the smaller CMP, known as the e-CMP .
