The Peugeot Traveler is a van from the French car manufacturer Peugeot presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016 . The vehicle is largely identical to the Citroën Spacetourer , Toyota ProAce Verso and Opel Zafira Life . All three were developed jointly by PSA Peugeot Citroën and Toyota and are largely visually and technically related to the Citroën Jumpy 3, Peugeot Expert 3, Toyota Proace 2 and Opel Vivaro C. All models are built by Sevel Nord in PSA's Valenciennes plant . In the model hierarchy, the Traveler replaces the Peugeot Expert Tepee, which was built until 2016 .

Model history

The Vans Spacetourer and Traveler as well as the ProAce Verso and the Zafira Life are based on the commercial versions Citroën Jumpy, Peugeot Expert, Toyota Proace and Opel Vivaro. The previous versions (except Zafira Life) were developed by PSA together with Fiat and came from the joint Eurovan (PSA / Fiat) development, started in 1994. Fiat merged with Chrysler to form Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2009 . This also gave Fiat the opportunity to take over Vans from Chrysler for its own model range, while at the same time the market for classic vans in general began to shrink as a result of the development towards SUVs . The production of the Fiat Ulysse model was therefore discontinued in 2011 and the Lancia Phedra in 2010 and both were replaced by models from the new group merger .

In 2012 Fiat announced that it was no longer interested in a joint successor development for the commercial models, while production of the Fiat Scudo should continue at PSA until 2016. PSA found a new cooperation partner in Toyota. Toyota urgently needed a successor model for the Hiace XH10 , which had disappeared from most European markets since 2010 due to the outdated technology and the resulting drop in sales. That is why, from 2013, the Toyota ProAce was produced as a panel van and station wagon using badge engineering from PSA. At the same time, the development of a joint successor model began under the project name KZéro. Right from the start, work was also carried out to create a competitive model for the successful VW Multivan and other competitive offers.

Like Spacetourer, ProAce Verso and Zafira Life, the Traveler is based on PSA's EMP2 platform, on which all PSA cars are built. Like its sister models, the Traveler is basically available with two wheelbases and three length variants, although not all equipment variants are available.

In 2017 PSA bought the car brand Opel, and due to new changes from General Motors to PSA, the model range has to be revised. This is how the Zafira Life came about. The Zafira Life was presented in January 2019, as the successor to Opel Vivaro B ( Renault-Nissan ) and Opel Zafira C (General Motors). In contrast to the others, the Zafira Life will continue to be built in the company's own Opel and Vauxhall main plant in England.

After the presentation of the battery-powered Expert in May 2020, Peugeot also presented the Traveler with the drive train from the Peugeot e-208 in the following month . It should go on sale at the end of 2020. Two different battery sizes are available. The 50 kWh variant enables a range according to WLTP of 230 km, the 75 kWh variant 330 km.

Technical specifications

Only common rail diesel engines are used to drive the car . These produce from 70 kW (95 PS) to 130 kW (177 PS). The standard consumption is given as 4.8 to 6.1 liters and CO 2 emissions of 126 to 159 g / km. In addition to a manual transmission and an automated six-speed gearbox, a six-speed automatic transmission is also available. An eight-speed automatic transmission is to follow in 2018.
