The Société Européenne de Véhicules Léger SA ( European Society for light commercial vehicles ), also known as Sevel Nord was an existing 1978 to 2012 joint venture of the French PSA Peugeot Citroen SA and the Italian Fiat Auto SpA for the production of automobiles and commercial vehicles . At the time, the negotiations were conducted by the managing directors Umberto Agnelli from Fiat and Jean Paul Parayre from the PSA group. The stake in the company was 50 percent each for both companies. While the cooperation Società Europea Veicoli Leggeri Sevel ( Sevel Sud ) between PSA and Fiat continues, Fiat terminated the cooperation at Sevel Nord in 2012 and Toyota became a new cooperation partner of PSA in 2013.
4,515 people are employed on the factory premises in Lieu-Saint-Amand , France . The annual production capacity is 260,000 units per year. This makes the plant the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in Europe and covers around 37 percent of the commercial vehicle market.
In the early days, the company, with its headquarters in Paris, was only responsible for importing vehicles from Italian production. However, since 1994 vehicles have also been manufactured in France. It is the fourth production site of the joint venture worldwide and, with its high production, occupies an important position within the group. At the end of 2012, Fiat withdrew from Sevel Nord, but the Fiat Scudo model should be built until 2016. From the 2nd quarter of 2013 a sister model of the Peugeot Expert , Citroën Jumpy and Fiat Scudo series was built as Toyota Proace . Since 2016, a new generation of the Peugeot Expert, Citroën Jumpy and Toyota Proace series has been produced, as well as the Peugeot Traveler , Citroën Spacetourer and Toyota Proace Verso minivans .
Minivans
Eurovan
The activities of the French Sevel plant include the production of light commercial vehicles such as minivans, panel vans , mobile homes and flatbed trucks for the European market. Identical vehicles of different brands are manufactured using what is known as badge engineering . The first vehicles built here were called Eurovans . The name was derived from the chassis used, called Euro. These were also used by the Sevel subsidiary Società Europea Veicoli Leggeri Sevel SpA (Sevel Sud) for the construction of automobiles . The vehicle models differed in terms of equipment and optics at the front and rear.
Type 220/221 (1994-2002)
The first generation with up to eight seats was introduced in June 1994. The sales names were Peugeot 806 , Citroën Evasion , Fiat Ulysse and Lancia Zeta .
A facelift was carried out in October 1998 .
Type 179AX (2002-2014)
The second generation of the Eurovan, for which only Fiat kept the same name, went into production in June 2002. The models were marketed as Peugeot 807 , Citroën C8 , Fiat Ulysse and Lancia Phedra . They received the highest rating of 5 stars in the Euro NCAP - Crash Test .
The Eurovan was technically revised in June 2006 and now also complies with the Euro 4 emissions standard . In February 2008, all four models underwent a visual revision.
Production of the Lancia Phedra ceased in mid-2010. The Fiat Ulysse followed a year later. The successor to this was the Fiat Freemont , the successor to the Phedra was the Lancia Voyager . In 2014 the production of the Citroën C8 and Peugeot 807 was stopped.
Peugeot Traveler, Citroën Spacetourer and Toyota Proace Verso 2 (since 2016)
The Peugeot Traveler , Citroën Spacetourer and Toyota Proace Verso 2, jointly developed by PSA and Toyota , have been produced in the factory since 2016 .
Commercial models
Based on the Eurovans
Type 222/224/223 (1995-2007)
The first generation in commercial form was based on the Eurovan and appeared on the market in 1995. It was not offered by Lancia as it does not have a commercial vehicle division. The models were called Peugeot Expert , Citroën Jumpy and Fiat Scudo . This mainly addressed taxi companies as well as other passenger transport companies and medium-sized companies. The vehicle was available under three brands as a panel van, station wagon, double cab or with a flatbed or only as a chassis for special bodies.
Type 229 (2007-2015)
The second generation was also based on the second generation of the Eurovan and retained the sales names in full. The models were still available as panel vans in two heights and two lengths, a station wagon for transporting people and a version as a flatbed or again as a chassis for special bodies. In 2015, production was stopped and the inventory was sold, and no more cars could be configured in 2016.
After Fiat merged with Chrysler , Fiat replaced the van versions with Chryler models for the Fiat and Lancia brands. In 2012 Fiat also canceled the contract for the commercial versions, although the Fiat Scudo continued to be built by Sevel until 2016 and was then replaced by the Fiat Talento . PSA then entered into a cooperation with Toyota. The TPCA joint venture for small cars already exists between Toyota and PSA . From 2013 the Eurovan model was also available as the Toyota Proace . The joint development of a successor model for 2016 between Toyota and PSA was also agreed.
3rd generation Peugeot Expert and Citroën Jumpy, 2nd generation Toyota Proace (since 2016)
The new generation developed between PSA and Toyota has been presented at the factory since 2016, alongside the minivan models Peugeot Traveler, Citroën Spacetourer and Toyota Proace Verso 2.
