The Sevel Argentina SA (acronym for Sociedad Europea de Vehículos para Latinoamérica) is a former automotive and commercial vehicle manufacturers from El Palomar in the province of Buenos Aires , Argentina . The company was founded in 1980 as a joint venture between Fiat and the Peugeot Group and united their Argentine branches Fiat Concord SA and Sociedad de Automóviles Franco Argentinos SA under one roof. The company existed in this form until 1996.

There were production facilities in El Palomar for passenger cars and in Ferreyra in the province of Córdoba for commercial vehicles. After production at the Peugeot Berazategui plant , also in the province of Buenos Aires, was initially discontinued, it was resumed there in 1993.

The first vehicles produced by the new company were the Fiat 125 , Fiat 128 Súper Europa and the Peugeot 504 , all of which came from the predecessor companies. It was not until 1981 that a comprehensive range of models developed with the Fiat 600 , Fiat 127 and Fiat Brío / Spazio / Vivace , which gave the Fiat brand a leading position on the Argentine market. The sport version of the 147, called Sorpasso IAVA , also helped . But the Peugeot 505 and the imported Fiat Ducato were also able to appeal to a large group of buyers and enabled the joint venture to achieve a decent market position in the country. In 1983 the Peugeot 205 was the only model to follow . On behalf of General Motors , Sevel had produced the Chevrolet C-10 for the South American market from 1985 . In the same year the Fiat Regata and the import model Fiat Croma were established . The Fiat Duna was added in 1987 and filled the gap between 128 Súper Europa and the Regata . In 1988, the new Fiat Tipo and Fiat Tempra models were a little more modern . The top model was the imported Alfa Romeo 164 . Due to poor sales at Tipo, the outdated Fiat Uno was launched, which was marketed in parallel in the current generation as the Fiat Uno 70s . The Peugeot 605 was offered as a second model in the upper middle class from 1989 . In the same year, production of the first and only truck model, the Fiat Iveco 190, began . The Fiat Fiorino was available from 1990. The last model from the factory of the Argentine Sevel was the Peugeot 405 from 1992 .

In 1995, the two factories parted ways again and Fiat Auto Argentina SA was set up, which from then on operated the Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands . The other plant remained active until the end of 1999 under the name of Sevel. Citroën and Peugeot vehicles were built here . Since then it has been known under the name Peugeot-Citroën Argentina SA .

After the split, Sevel only continued to produce the old Peugeot 504 and the newer Peugeot 405 . The notchback sedan of the Peugeot 306 was the only new model from 1995 . It was not until 1999 that the small Peugeot 206 was added. In the same year, the production of the identical Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Partner models began .

The company used the manufacturer code 8A4 in the vehicle identification number .
