content

Lane “Lanny” Meyer, a high school student in California, is narrowly defeated in an elimination race for the high school ski team. Immediately afterwards he is left by his girlfriend Beth in favor of the ski trainer Roy. Lanny decides to kill herself, but changes her mind because he hasn't been to Disneyland yet. Further attempts follow, all of which end lightly.

While his somewhat eccentric family is preparing for Christmas, the French exchange student Monique arrives at Mrs. Smith's next door. Ricky Smith, the son of the house, is supposed to hook up with the young girl according to Mrs. Smith's wishes. Monique knows how to prevent this by only speaking French. Further catastrophes are not long in coming, so Lanny is challenged daily by two Asians to a car race at a traffic light and the search for a new girlfriend turns out to be extremely difficult. School performance also suffer from separation stress.

Only Lanny's good friend Charles cares about him. He suggests walking down the K 12, the most difficult downhill run far and wide, and announces this plan over the school's loudspeaker system. In the meantime, Mrs. Smith, Ricky and Monique were guests in the Meyers' house, whereby Mrs. Smith suffers a small accident and henceforth can no longer bring Ricky and Monique to school. So Lanny has to do this job too.

Christmas approaches and Monique confesses to Lanny that she has no language problems and that she adores the Los Angeles Dodgers . The next day they both start repairing Lanny's Camaro . The sports car is immediately tried out by driving and winning a race against the two Asians. As a thank you, Lanny invites Monique to a candlelight dinner in a hamburger restaurant. The next day the two practice skiing so that Lane can do his announced descent from the K 12. A ski binding breaks due to a mishap, so Lane does the descent on one ski. Once at the bottom, Beth obviously wants to change partners again, but Lanny stays with Monique. Ricky claims his rights again, but is defeated in a ski pole duel. Lane immediately drives to Los Angeles with Monique to grant her a heartfelt desire: a visit to the LA Dodgers stadium .

criticism

"Teenage comedy off the assembly line, full of gags of the cheapest kind and commercial slapstick scenes."
