The Fiat Regata (Type 138) is a passenger car model of the Italian car manufacturer Fiat that was built from August 1983 to January 1990 . Like the Seat Malaga and Ronda , the Regata is based on the platform of the Fiat Ritmo hatchback sedan . For the Ritmo, Fiat essentially took over the design of the Fiat 128 .

Body styles

The Regata was initially only offered as a four-door sedan with a notchback . In September 1984 the five-door station wagon followed , which bore the additional designation Weekend , which is common at Fiat . The van variant sold in small numbers was called Fiat Marengo .

The tailgate of the Regata Weekend is divided horizontally. The upper flap closes at the height of the bumper and the lower part including the loading sill and part of the bumper can be folded down. It can also be left open while driving to enable long items to be transported.

From early 1985 to mid-1987, the Regata was as 70 ES (for E nergy S aving offered), who was saved by various modifications gasoline. Outwardly, it differed from the other models with wind deflectors on the front side windows, special aerodynamic hubcaps, and a matt black rubber tear-off edge on the trunk lid. Special technical features were the map-controlled, electronic Digiplex ignition system and the Citymatic start-stop system : when the function was switched on, the engine could be switched off at the push of a button and restarted by pressing the accelerator pedal.

All of the Regata's wheels are individually suspended, on MacPherson struts and wishbones with stabilizers at the front . At the rear there are trapezoidal wishbones with shock absorber struts, a leaf spring stretched transversely between the two wishbones and rubber stoppers to prevent the chassis from sagging. Toe and camber are adjustable at the front and rear. The steering works with a pinion and rack .

The brakes, disc brakes with single-piston floating calipers at the front and drum brakes with brake force regulator on the rear wheels , are operated hydraulically via a two-circuit system with brake booster .
