Fiat 1600 Spider is a 2-door 1600 S convertible manufactured from mid-1962 to 1966 . It had a 4-cylinder in-line engine built by FIAT under license from OSCA with two overhead camshafts and 1568 cm³ displacement and an output of approx. 66 kW (90 DIN PS). From 1965 the 1600 S was equipped with a 5-speed gearbox that was also shifted in the middle of the car instead of a four-speed gearbox. Its top speed was around 175 km / h. The same Pininfarina body was also fitted to the Fiat 1500 Spider , of which the 1600 S is outwardly distinguished by the larger 15-inch rims, the use of different hubcaps, the shape of the bonnet (on the 118SA in 1962) and the im Radiator grille recessed spotlights (on the 118SB from 1963) differed. You could optionally order a hardtop for all cabriolet versions.
In addition, a small number of coupes of this model were also manufactured by Pininfarina. To do this, the convertible window frame was removed again, a fixed roof (with a smaller windshield) was welded and the tailgate was shortened to create space for the rear window that was further extended. The chrome trim strips on the fenders (rear, top) had to give way for this conversion.
