The Fiat Stilo is a compact class vehicle from the car manufacturer Fiat , which was sold in Europe from autumn 2001 to summer 2008. It replaced the Fiat Bravo / Brava models as a three- and five-door hatchback and the Fiat Marea Weekend as a five-door station wagon Multi Wagon .

history

In October 2001 the hatchback sedan came on the market as a three- and five-door model. Three petrol engines and one diesel engine were available for the market launch.

The bodies of the two versions are different (different bumpers, fenders, doors, windshields), although the vehicles are almost the same up to the B-pillar. This was possible because the Fiat Stilo was the second model after the Fiat Multipla to be based on Fiat's steel space frame platform. With this construction method, different body versions could be realized with relatively little effort.

The engines, the self-supporting body and the chassis were developed and produced by Fiat itself, the braking system is a Bosch development . Most of the electrics were also supplied by Bosch, as well as the common rail injection system, air mass meter, high pressure pump on JTD models, ABS and ESP. Some components are also from TRW / Lucas .

From January 2003 there was also a station wagon version ( Multi Wagon ), which replaced the Fiat Marea Weekend , which was discontinued at the end of 2002 .

Facelift

In September 2004 the Stilo range was given a facelift . At least on the five-door hatchback, the rear lights were darkened. Fiat logos have now also been placed centrally above the license plate.

Technical innovations were the diesel engines with common rail direct injection and a displacement of 1.9 liters, which were available in three output levels (74, 88 and 110 kW - 100, 120 and 150 hp).

In September 2005, the range was expanded to include the Stilo Uproad , a rustic-style station wagon that had, for example, slightly increased ground clearance. It was only available with the 1.9 l diesel engines, initially in the 85 and 103 kW (115 and 140 hp) output levels, later with 88 and 110 kW (120 and 150 hp).

Equipment

The Fiat Stilo was available with various equipment. The basic versions were also well equipped for a vehicle of this class. The Stilo has a steerable air nozzle for the passenger area and under each front seat air nozzles for the passengers in the rear part for the feet. Unfortunately, there were also savings in some model series. For example, the fuel filler cap is not secured by the central locking in every vehicle, and there is also no lockable connector.

There is a foldable central armrest for the front area. In short-distance traffic and in urban areas, however, this can be a hindrance, as it makes the way to the parking brake and the gear lever more difficult.

In some variants there was also a ski opening in the middle of the rear bench. In other variants, the middle part was intended as an armrest with cup holders when it was not used as a seat.

The Stilo also has the option of using a cruise control. Often the basic functions are already available. So it is possible to install the corresponding selector switch yourself if the basic wiring is already available. However, the corresponding function on the instrument panel should then also be activated via the diagnostic software.

The Stilo was available with two cruise control versions.

  • Standard cruise control: only keeps the speed
  • Radar and camera-guided cruise control: also maintains the set distance and adapts the speed.

successor

In November 2006, the production of the three and five-door Stilo was stopped in Europe, both of which were replaced by the Bravo (type 198), which was offered exclusively with five doors .

The Stilo Multiwagon was available on the European markets until August 2008. At the same time, a facelift was carried out on the Stilo on the South American markets.

In Brazil, production continued until 2010 as a five-door model with powerful gasoline engines for the South American market. The Stilo with an Italian diesel engine was exported to Argentina and Uruguay.

Registration numbers

Between 2001 and 2009 a total of 69,535 Fiat Stilos were newly registered in the Federal Republic of Germany. 2002 was the most successful sales year with 22,569 units.
