The Fiat Tipo or Fiat Aegea (proper spelling: Ægea) is a car model of the automobile manufacturer Fiat Chrysler . The vehicle had its world premiere as Aegea at the Istanbul Auto Show 2015. It has been offered under this name in Turkey since November 2015. It has been on the market as Tipo in Central and Western Europe since February 2016. The vehicle is to be offered in a further 40 countries in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. A version of the sedan with the type designation Dodge Neon is available for the American and some other markets .
It started with a four-door notchback sedan in February 2016 , followed by a hatchback in May 2016 and a station wagon in September 2016 . All body variants are assigned to the compact car class.
Surname
The name Aegea alludes on the one hand to the Aegean Sea, as the car is built in Turkey. On the other hand, it contains elements of the terms Europe, Asia and Africa, i.e. the markets in which the vehicle is to be offered. In Central and Western Europe it was launched under the name Tipo. Fiat took up a name that was used from 1988 to 1995 for the Fiat Tipo (type 160) .
Development and production
The Aegea was created as a cooperation between the Centro Stile of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) and Tofaş . The Aegea is produced in the Tofaş plant in Bursa , Turkey.
Engines
Initially there was a choice of two turbo diesel and two gasoline engines, which could be combined with a manual or automatic transmission. The power spectrum ranges from 70 kW to 88 kW. A 1.4-liter turbo petrol engine with 120 hp and a LPG system , which was developed in cooperation with Landi Renzo , and a natural-power version with natural gas drive should follow in 2016.
safety
In 2016 the Fiat Tipo was tested for vehicle safety by the Euro NCAP . In the basic version, the Tipo received three out of five possible stars. However, since a safety package is optionally available for the model, the Tipo was also tested with the safety package. In this test, it received four out of five stars.
